Take Your Routine Off Autopilot: 10 Ideas to Try Before Summer Ends

When was the last time you tried something different at Colets?

It's easy to slip into autopilot: the same workout, the same class, the same routine. While consistency is key, adding something new can be exactly what you need to reignite your motivation. Psychologists call it the "novelty effect" - trying new experiences stimulates your brain, keeps exercise feeling enjoyable, and can help you stay engaged for longer.

Summer is the perfect opportunity to shake things up. Whether it's exploring a class you've always been curious about, taking your workout outdoors or giving yourself permission to unwind, August is your chance to experience more of what Colets has to offer.

Here are 10 experiences to tick off before summer ends. How many can you complete?

1. Take Your Workout Outdoors

Swap four walls for fresh air and make the most of the summer weather with an outdoor workout.

If you spend most of your day indoors, exercising outside is a great way to enjoy fresh air, natural light, and a change of scenery, helping reduce stress, improve focus, boost energy levels, and leave you feeling mentally refreshed as well as physically stronger.

Why not book one of Mel's outdoor classes every Wednesday? Join Functional Fitness at 6.30pm or HIIT at 7.30pm.

2. Explore BioStrength Training Modes

If you already love BioStrength, challenge yourself to train differently. If you've never tried it before, now's the perfect opportunity.

Technogym's BioStrength equipment offers four intelligent training modes:

  • Tone for muscular endurance

  • Power for explosive strength

  • Strong for building functional strength

  • Hypertrophy for muscle development

Each mode adapts the resistance to you, giving you a completely different training experience.

Book an induction at Reception or speak to a member of the fitness team in the gym for expert guidance and tips.

3. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

It's easy to stick to what you know, but adding variety to your routine helps you become a more well-rounded mover. Different types of movement offer unique benefits, from building strength and improving mobility to enhancing balance and fitness.

For example, if you usually lift heavy, try a bodyweight workout or a yoga stretch class to improve mobility and control. If you’re a regular swimmer, explore how strength training can complement your time in the pool. And if the gym floor feels unfamiliar, our fitness team is on hand to show you around and help you get started.

There are experts in every area of the club who are always happy to help. Speak to a member of the team during your next visit or use Reception and our website to find the right person for your needs.

4. Experience Reformer Pilates

Strength, control and movement come together in one of Colets’ most popular classes.

Reformer Pilates offers a low impact but incredibly effective workout. improving posture, balance, flexibility and strength, while addressing muscle imbalances and relieving everyday tension.
