Women’s Squash Week: Why Squash Might Be Your New Favourite Sport

If you’ve ever thought about trying squash but worried you might not be fit enough, experienced enough or simply wouldn’t know where to start, Women’s Squash Week is the perfect opportunity to give it a go.

From 14th-20th September, we’re celebrating Women’s Squash Week at Colets and encouraging more women to step onto court, whether you’ve never picked up a racket before, haven’t played for years or are already a regular player.

And if you’re feeling a little nervous about getting started, you’re definitely not alone.

Everyone starts somewhere

Our member Kat started playing squash as a new player and has since discovered just how enjoyable, social and rewarding the sport can be.

You don’t need to know all the rules, have perfect technique or be super fit before your first session. That’s what learning is for.

Squash is a welcoming sport, and at Colets there are plenty of ways to get involved at a level that feels comfortable for you.

Why give squash a try?

Squash is a brilliant full-body workout, helping you build fitness while having fun at the same time.

And because every rally and opponent is different, no two games feel quite the same.

It’s also one of those activities where you can become so focused on the game that you almost forget you’re exercising.

Being a beginner isn’t scary

Walking onto a squash court for the first time can feel daunting, particularly if you assume everyone else has been playing for years.

But you don’t have to jump straight into a competitive match.

Our squash team can help you understand the basics, from how to hold the racket and move around the court to simple rules and techniques. You can learn at your own pace and build your confidence as you go.

Whether you come along on your own, bring a friend or join one of our social sessions, there’s no expectation that you already know what you’re doing.

Get involved during Women’s Squash Week

Join us for our Women’s Social Evening on Tuesday 15th September at 6.30pm, or bring the family along for Family Squash on Saturday 19th September at 1.30pm

If you’d rather start with a little guidance first, you can also book a free squash taster with our team.

Whether you’re completely new to squash or thinking about picking up a racket again, Women’s Squash Week is all about giving it a go.

Ready to get started? Email NealB@colets.co.uk to find out more or book your free squash taster.
