Your Second Home for Every Stage: Our Members Grow Up With Us
At Colets, we’re proud to be more than just a health club; we’re a place where families grow, connect, and create memories. For one local family, Colets has been a constant presence through the early years of parenting, weekend routines, and now into the teenage chapter of family life.
Finding Balance as a Parent
Emily first joined Colets when her third child, Aidan, was just six weeks old. Newly on maternity leave, she was looking for a place that would work for the whole family. With the on-site crèche and plenty of activities for her older girls, Niamh and Orla, the timing felt perfect. During those early months, Aidan spent one session a week in the crèche and enjoyed a weekly swim with his mum. At weekends, the girls, then aged five and two, loved soft play while their mum fitted in a class. It was the start of a routine that quickly became part of family life. Emily says. ‘As a parent, it was wonderful to have a class for myself while the kids were happy and confident being with other adults.’ At Colets we like to make those early years easier, creating space for both fun and rest.
From First Steps to Family Weekends
Aidan began in the crèche and moved on to weekend junior activities as soon as he could. She says, ‘He’s been doing something at Colets almost every weekend since he was two.’ Niamh and Orla started out at soft play and swimming on Saturdays and, once they hit school age, jumped into kids’ camps too.
What made it so easy for the kids was the familiarity, the same friendly faces, the same warm welcome. Many of the staff already knew the children from weekend activities, so when they started kids’ camp or junior gym, it felt like a natural step.
Staying Active as a Family
These days, the family still come to Colets almost every weekend. ‘My husband kicks things off with the early Saturday morning spin session. Aidan dives into Junior Activities while I head to spin or Konga.’ The kids enjoy junior gym and swimming and recently, Niamh who is now 13 has started going to Zumba with her mum on Friday evenings. She quotes ‘Sharing a class with your daughter is something really special’ which sets a good example for her kids.
A True Community Hub
The family has made friends here over the years, through chats after classes, shared smiles at soft play, and catching up during weekend sessions as they always feel “ very welcome at Colets and everyone is friendly’. They have loved the community events too fireworks night, the summer picnic, and the discos when the children were little. There’s always something going on.
Looking Ahead
Now that Niamh has started using the gym, it’s been wonderful to see how Colets continues to grow with their family. She’s already confident and at ease in the space, having come through our junior gym sessions over the years.
For this family, Colets has become a part of their everyday life, not just a place to work out, but somewhere they’ve grown together, stayed active. Its families like theirs that make the Colets community so special and we’re excited to support them in whatever the next chapter brings.
