What It’s Really Like to Try Les Mills Classes
Trying a new fitness class can feel daunting, especially if it’s different from your usual routine. That’s why we invited members and staff to experience a selection of Les Mills classes and share their feedback. From strength to mindfulness, each class offers something unique, but all are designed to be welcoming, motivating, and effective. Here’s what you can expect.
What are Les Mills classes?
Les Mills classes are pre-choreographed, science-backed workouts set to music, so every class is consistent, purposeful, and designed to deliver results.
With expert coaching, clearly structured workouts, and options provided throughout, you’re encouraged to work at a level that feels right for you. Whether it’s your first time in a studio or you’re looking to refresh your routine, the atmosphere is motivating, inclusive, and supportive.
CORE: Building Strength from the Inside Out
CORE focuses on functional strength, stability, and balance. You’ll work through controlled movements using resistance bands, plates, and bodyweight exercises, all set to motivating music.
“Core is a fun, efficient workout that makes an impact and you can feel the results the next day! The instructor keeps the energy high and makes every session enjoyable, I always leave feeling stronger and full of endorphins!” - Hannah
Members shared that the class challenged them in new ways by isolating the core while also incorporating full-body movements that engaged it.
BodyBalance: Calm, Strength, and Mindfulness
BodyBalance combines yoga, tai chi, and Pilates in a flowing, mindful class. Through controlled sequences, focused breathing, and gentle stretching, the session encourages both physical release and mental reset.
It’s ideal for anyone wanting to slow the pace, build mobility, and restore balance within a busy lifestyle.
“I’d never really done anything like this before - I’m usually more into strength training and playing football. After having a chat with the instructor, Nikki, I thought I’d give it a go. It definitely helped with my flexibility and got me moving in ways I’m not used to. Using my own bodyweight in some of the positions was challenging, but actually really great.” - Seb
Members have described BodyBalance as calming yet surprisingly powerful, with many commenting on how engaged their muscles felt throughout the class.
SHAPES: A Steady Burn That Builds Strength
SHAPES is a low-impact workout that delivers a surprisingly intense burn through slow, controlled movements. Blending elements of Pilates, barre, and strength training, the class uses light weights, resistance, and bodyweight exercises to target smaller stabilising muscles that are often overlooked.
The focus is on time under tension, posture, and precision, creating a deep, effective workout that builds strength, control, and muscle tone without high-impact movement.
“The movements were controlled, but you could really feel the burn building as the class went on. It was tough, but in a good way, and definitely pushed me.”
Participants loved the steady burn and how effective the class felt for toning and sculpting, particularly for those wanting a strong workout that’s kinder on the joints while still delivering results.
BODYPUMP: Strength Training, Made Social
BODYPUMP is a member favourite full-body workout set to motivating music, combining high-repetition strength training with a strong sense of community.
“I love, love, love Pump! I love the music, lifting heavy(ish) weights, pushing myself, getting stronger. It's a brilliant format, and everyone should try it! It's for anyone who wants to do a weights programme but doesn't fancy going in the gym, is intimidated by all the machines/blokes/gangs of youths and is great on those days when you're not massively motivated because 45mins later you've blinked and done a full workout! I especially love Katies class.” - Anthea
Working out in a group helps keep motivation high, and the structure makes strength training feel approachable, even for beginners.
Les Mills classes are more than just workouts, they’re experiences designed to support, motivate, and challenge you in a positive way. Whether you’re lifting weights, strengthening your core, or finding calm through movement, there’s a class to suit every goal and every mood.
If you’re thinking about trying a Les Mills class, this is your sign to give it a go.
