Old Paulines

Colets is the home of the Old Pauline Sports Clubs (for former pupils of St. Pauls' School, Barnes) Home fixtures have been held at the ground since the inaugural game of rugby between the Old Paulines and Old Blues in 1930. Up until the mid-1970s the 15-acre grounds were only used by the OP rugby and cricket clubs at weekends and it was run entirely by one groundsman and six volunteers. A brave decision was then made to build a new clubhouse with six squash courts that would be run by professional staff and to invite people from the local community to become members of Colets and use the facilities.

As a result, the new Thames Ditton Sports and Squash Club (later to be named “Colets Health and Fitness”) was formed in 1977, the intention being that sufficient income would be generated to ensure the long-term future of the Old Pauline sports pitches and clubhouse and provide first class facilities for local members.

As well as the large numbers of Old Paulines playing regularly at Thames Ditton, the captains and teams are always keen for more, so get in touch if you appreciate good sporting camaraderie and competition in a first-class setting. For contact details see the sections below for each club.

All Old Paulines have free “social” membership in the Clubhouse, enabling them to visit Colets at any time to use the bar, watch the weekend’s sporting activities or arrange their own social events. For those interested in the possibilities of health club membership, Colets offers Old Paulines discounted rates allowing full use of all the facilities including the extensively-equipped gym, 25-metre pool and spa, squash courts, aerobics studios, crèche and nursery. Old Pauline Football Club

With St Paul’s School being a founder member of the RFU in 1871 (before the word soccer was invented in the 1880s) the Old Pauline rugby club is actually called the Old Pauline Football Club and itself celebrated its own centenary in 1971. The club puts out 5 sides on a Saturday (4 senior and 1 veterans’ team), the 1st XV currently playing in R.F.U. Surrey 1. Contacts:

Old Pauline Cricket Club

Three sides on Saturday and one on Sunday represent the Old Pauline cricketing contingent with all the Saturday sides playing in the top division of their respective Fullers’ Surrey County Leagues. Excellent drainage and top quality covers ensure that games are seldom rained off at Thames Ditton.
